What Did You Do During The War?

Well, I wasn’t actually in a war (unless you count Korea), but I was in the service. And I did a lot of different things while serving in the Air Force. But I got to thinking about all the different jobs I’ve had over my lifetime. I thought I’d done four or five different things; and I was surprised when I actually started listing the things I’ve done so far in my lifetime. (And these are all paying jobs, too!)
Our Dad had a lot of different jobs during his lifetime as well -- now I wish we had a complete list of everything HE did. I bet it’d be both impressive and entertaining. MY list, on the other hand, is neither.
In no particular order, here are my experiences:
- Accountant
- Gas meter reader
- New car cleaner
- Teacher
- Corn packager
- Computer and network technician
- Yearbook plant production consultant
- Forklift operator
- Warehouse order picker
- Software developer
- Railway car loader (in a glass factory)
- Pea grader
- Presidential support (to President Carter)
- News reporter
- Bartender
- Time keeper
- Registered State lobbyist
- Insurance agent
- Newspaper editor
- Pea shucker (on one of Birds Eye’s pea viners)
- Sports writer
- Historian
- Curriculum developer
- Drill instructor (military marching)
- Fish counter (no kidding - a State job!)
- Volleyball coach
- Statistical analyst
- Web site developer
- Corn grader
- Spy (again, no kidding - courtesy of the Air Force)
- Photographer
- Newspaper delivery (in bulk, not door-to-door)
- Groundskeeper
- Auditor
- Registered consumer activist
- Printing press composition worker
Damn. If you ask me, I can't hold down a job!
